This canal was recently hydroseeded to control erosion. The green mulch fades in the sun.

Hydroseeding is a great method of erosion control.  Forrest Seeding applies affordable seed blends to canals, ditch banks, roadways, berms around holding ponds, or slopes.  Our contractor's blend germinates quickly - maximizing erosion control.

Another concern with erosion control is visibility and degradability.  Our methods of erosion control will fade (see above photo) and slowly biodegrade as your grass seed germinates.  When straw cover degrades, the decomposition process "robs" your soil of nitrogen.  Our products leave a healthier top soil behind.

Hydroseeding (or hydromulching) is a blend of recycled paper, wood fibers, seed, water and fertilizer.   There are a variety of other additives we can use to maximize erosion control.

Tackifier:  When erosion control is a concern, we add tackifiers to the slurry.  This increases the "stickiness" of the slurry, both to itself and to the soil. Usful on slopes, berms, canals or anywhere erosion control is a concern.

Fiber Matrix Additives:
This additive provides maximum erosion control.  When this hydroseeded slurry dries, it forms a bonded fiber matrix.  The bonded fiber matrix will absorb and retain water with each rain or watering- providing enhanced germination.
This slurry adheres directly to the soil, forming a protective layer that form-fits your area.  You don't have to worry about soil eroding under your straw cover or sod (see picture below).  Fiber matrix additives can be costly, but they could make the difference in your erosion control compliance.  During a preliminary site assessment, we will determine if erosion control or slope stabilization might require this additive.

Sodded Slope: Erosion and a poor root system were at fault for this unsightly slope in Havelock, NC.
Forrest Seeding was called in to hydroseed the location after the sod failed.

Blankets:  We can use erosion-control blankets on steep slopes to maximize water retention and minimize erosion-control over long time periods.  Erosion control blankets provide many of the same benefits as the fiber-matrix additives, but the blankets are unrolled to provide protection for your soil.
